Description
Very fine sixth plate ambrotype of an unidentified Confederate officer with Virginia staff buttons on his frock coat. The button design can be clearly seen with a loupe. Two collar bars are visible under his beard, so he was at least a first lieutenant. The officer’s cheeks are lightly tinted but thankfully no gilt was applied to the buttons. A slouch hat completes the officer’s wardrobe. The pose is serious and determined, reflective of the times. This is a quality Confederate officer image from the state of Virginia. There is some slight solarization that does not affect the image. It is housed in a complete leatherette case with separated spine.
