This fine Confederate sixth plate tintype has the soldier’s name A. H. Puckett written in the case in period writing.   In the case it says:

Remember me

Albert H. Puckett enlisted on May 16, 1861 as a private in Co. C, 14th Tennessee infantry.  The unit served in Virginia.  Puckett was appointed hospital steward on October 2, 1862 and served in that capacity into 1864.  Service records list him both as A. H. Puckett and Albert H. Puckett, and he is named as A. H. Puckett in the case.  The image was likely taken early in the war, with Puckett displaying a Colt revolver and Mississippi rifle for the photograph.  The patchbox cover of the Mississippi rifle can be seen under the mat.  His belt has a small oval plate on it which has been gilded, so it cannot be determined what markings are on it.  It is very likely a small US belt plate.  The image definitely has a Tennessee look about it.  The image is housed in a half leatherette case with the period ID written in it.

For clarity, it should be noted that there was also an Adam H. Puckett from Tennesse who deserted in 1863.  It is quite unlikely that he is the soldier pictured here given his desertion prior to the writing being added in the case.
