Description
Beautiful sixth plate clear glass ambrotype of a Union corporal armed with a small percussion boot pistol and Sheffield style knife in his belt. He is wearing a frock coat with nicely tinted corporal stripes on the sleeves, blue for infantry. His Hardee hat is decked out with an infantry horn insignia and a small black plume or feather. Buttons and other details are gilded. The photographer outlined the US belt plate in gilt and gilded in a US to make the plate read properly. In addition, the soldier’s cheeks have been tinted. The image is very crisp and clear, representing a nicely posed early war Union soldier. It is housed in a very nice thermoplastic case.
