Description
Beautiful sixth plate tintype of a Union sergeant armed with what looks like a Model 1816 conversion musket. The double strapped front barrel band and buttonhead ramrod are strong clues. He has a Smith & Wesson Model #1 revolver tucked into his belt, which has a cap box and bayonet attached. The musket also has a bayonet attached, so the photographer likely included some props. His cartridge box is quite visible, as are his sergeant’s stripes. Nicely gilded are the US belt plate, cartridge box plate, eagle plate, shoulder scales and buttons. The image is in nice condition with no bends or creases. It is housed in a patriotic thermoplastic case with some cracks and chips. If you like images with strong content, this one should please you.
