Ruby Ambrotype, 9th plate
This image of two seated recruits is from Massachusetts based on the Massachusetts buttons on the soldier’s uniform on the left side of the image. The state seal can clearly be seen with a loupe. Both men wear the same style kepi and one is still in civilian clothing. I would say that these men are early war recruits. The image is very clear and has interesting content for a ninth plate image. The scuff on the chest of the soldier at left is on the cover glass. The image is housed in a decent thermoplastic case with a chip at the latch. A very nice early war image from Massachusetts.
