Description
This nicely hand colored Carte de Visite depicts a US Navy 2nd assistant engineer. The rank stripe and shoulder straps are clearly visible on his frock coat. The uniform is colored blue and the buttons and insignia are gold. The tablecloth is a bold red. The officer’s hat is just visible next to his arm resting on the table. The hat is colored blue with gold insignia. The officer sits in front of a backdrop that looks like a portico with green trees in the distance. The verso of the CDV is marked “Thwaites & Co. Photographers, 204 Chatham Square, 104 Chatham Street, N.Y. and 182 Fulton Street, Brooklyn.” A 2-cent cancelled tax stamp is affixed. The CDV is in very nice condition with a couple of tiny pin marks and a small smudge in the background. Hand colored CDV’s are both attractive and uncommon.
