Description
This sixth plate ruby ambrotype has a real Old Testament warrior look about it. The young Confederate carries an intent stare as he holds a big side knife to his breast. In his other hand is a large book, which is very likely a Bible, although the title cannot be distinguished on the binding. He could be a farm boy, with his dark trousers, plain shirt and suspenders. He completes his ensemble with an unadorned kepi. The image is very clear, with some minor specks that do not detract from the image. It is housed in a complete leatherette case with repaired spine. This is a fine early war image that displays the serious nature of the Southern volunteer.
