Description

Very nice quarter plate tintype of a Yankee private fully equipped for a march.  He is wearing a 9-button frock coat, with a full backpack and blanket roll on top.  The backpack straps and blanket roll can plainly be seen.  The soldier is equipped with what appears to be a model 1842 musket with bayonet affixed.  His US belt plate is not gilded, nor is the eagle plate on the cartridge box cross belt.  The cartridge box is visible next to the musket, as is the bayonet scabbard on the opposite side.  His kepi visor is turned up, and he wears a nice pair of boots.  Quite unique to this image are the knee and hands of another soldier visible in the lower right of the image.  This is likely the next soldier waiting to have his picture taken!  I have included a scan of the image out of the mat and protector to more clearly show the other soldier.  Images of fully equipped soldiers, including backpack and blanket, are not common, and this one also uniquely shows part of another soldier.  Housed in a nice quarter plate thermoplastic case.
