Description

This crystal clear sixth plate ambrotype depicts a seated Confederate soldier displaying a double barrel shotgun. The shotgun is proudly held up for the photographer, and the twin hammers and triggers are quite visible.  The collar on the soldier’s jacket is folded open to reveal his white shirt, and the jacket is somewhat tight.  Nine gilded buttons are visible on the jacket.  The image is so clear that you can see the coarse weave of the uniform’s material.    Double barrel shotguns were popular with Southerners early in the war and remained so with cavalrymen throughout the conflict.  That being said, images with double barrel shotguns are uncommon and very popular with collectors.  If you like Southerners with weapons, you should consider this image.  The image is housed in a nice leatherette case with repaired spine.
