Description
This fine sixth plate ambrotype depicts a Confederate soldier armed with a Model 1842 musket, Colt pistol, bayonet and side knife. He is also wearing a belt with a forked tongue buckle, which is quite rare in a Confederate image. The buckle has been gilded, and you can see the double sets of holes in the belt to accommodate the forked tongue. The soldier is also carrying his cartridge box with shoulder strap. He is wearing a slouch type hat, and has an overall Mississippi look to him, based on the hat and buckle. I cannot emphasize enough the rarity of a quadruple armed Confederate image, particularly when a forked tongue buckle is included. You will not see another image like this for sale anytime soon. Housed in a complete leatherette case with repaired spine.
