Description

Flournoy Wells enlisted on May 29, 1861 at Dinwiddie Courthouse as a private in Co. I, 3rd VA Cavalry (Dinwiddie Cavalry).  His occupation was listed as farmer.  He was listed on the rolls of the Dinwiddie Cavalry in 1862 and was paroled on June 10, 1865 at Richmond, VA.  Although records of his service are scarce, he served for the duration of the war and likely took part in many of the 3rd VA’s engagements.  Wells married Indianna Howerton on December 6, 1865.  He was born on August 23, 1837 and died on July 11, 1932.  He is interred in a family cemetery in DeWitt, VA.  The image is housed in a Confederate made leatherette case and comes with an extensive provenance documentation package.
