Description
Very nice quarter plate tintype of a Union soldier in a full standing pose. The backdrop appears to be a field setup. The soldier is holding a conversion musket (likely a Model 1816) which can be seen in full, including the bayonet. A small pistol is tucked in the breast pocket of his jacket, and knapsack straps are visible over his shoulders. The buttons are staff style, but the design cannot be made out. The jacket looks very much like a New York issue, hence the New York attribution. This image has great content and character. There are a couple of scratches that are only visible at certain angles and do not detract from the image. No case with this one.
