Description
Tintype, 6th plate
This nice image depicts a Union private at attention with his musket. His belt plate has not been gilded, so the US is visible under magnification. A cap box is on the belt. He stands in front of a photographer’s backdrop of woodlands, hills and I believe a lake. The backdrop is not martial and would likely have been used for civilian photographs. Although a bit dark, the image has good content. It is housed in a complete leatherette case with repaired spine.
