Description
This nice sixth plate ruby ambrotype of a New York soldier has some interesting content. The soldier is seated in a classic pose with his elbow on a table. Under his elbow is a book. Resting on the book is a nice beehive hat, certainly not a common Union soldier style of hat. The soldier is wearing a New York style jacket with a chest pocket. Under magnification I can just make out the New York shield on several buttons. The image is quite clear such that you can see that the book has a title on the spine. The image is housed in a complete leatherette case with repaired spine.
