Description
This crisp quarter plate tintype of a handsome young Confederate is posed in an unusual manner with the soldier looking away from the camera. He is seated at a tall table, sitting sideways in the chair, legs crossed and arms resting on the table and chair back. He is wearing a shell jacket and vest with the buttons gilded. His watch chain is also gilded. A bowtie is visible at the top of the jacket. The coarse weave of his trousers can clearly be seen under magnification. The soldier looks like he has just enlisted and has not yet gone to war. The image surfaced in an estate sale with a ninth plate tintype of a Confederate in a shell jacket with wooden buttons. A very fine image housed in a complete leatherette case with repaired spine.
