Description

Thomas M. Reese enlisted on October 5, 1861 into Company A, US Volunteers, 2nd Sharpshooters.  They were, of course, a part of the famous Berdan’s Sharpshooters.  Reese’s name can also be found with the spelling “Rees.”  Reese served with the Sharpshooters until his discharge on September 22, 1864.  This image was identified by other existing images of Reese.  I have included one of these images from Brian White’s collection which he was graciously willing to share as provenance.  Brian’s image is the one with the tents and flag backdrop.  In looking for Reese in the Civil War Data website, there is another image of him attached to his record.   I have a copy of the Civil War Data package which will be provided to the buyer.  So offered here is a third image of a soldier serving in one of the most famous Union units.  Reese is seated with his elbow on a table in a classic Civil War pose.  There is a painted backdrop behind him.  The buttons on his frock coat have been gilded, and his face lightly tinted.  The US on his belt plate has been gilded in to read correctly.  The image did not come with cover glass, so I added glass and a preserver.  I also included a half leatherette case to better protect the image.  The image has some scuffs and minor creases, but they do not detract from the importance of this image.
