Description
This sixth plate ambrotype depicts a seated Confederate soldier wearing a uniform jacket with black cloth epaulettes. He is also wearing a checked shirt under the jacket. He is posed as many soldiers were, with one arm resting on a table. He is most likely from Virginia, as his belt is adorned with a stamped Virginia belt plate. Although his hand obscures a portion of the belt plate, the top part of Virtus can be seen, along with one side of the wreath. The image is a little dark, but the soldier’s face is quite clear and the belt plate can easily be distinguished as Virginia under a loupe. A close up of the belt plate is included in the gallery. The image is housed in a nice leatherette case with repaired spine. An image with the full belt plate visible would cost twice this price.
